NMM and OSL are hard for one reason: you're painting light, and light doesn't guess. Put one highlight in the wrong place and the gold reads as yellow paint, the glow reads as green trim. The usual fix is squinting at photos of someone else's model under someone else's lighting, or learning Blender well enough to render your own references. I did the second one so you don't have to.

Take the guesswork out of it. Load your actual model and put the light where it lives in the scene: the torch in the left hand, the moon behind the cloak, a cold sky overhead. Chromatory shows you exactly where every highlight, reflection and shadow falls. Paint what you see instead of guessing what physics would do.

Built for the hard techniques. NMM comes from knowing where the reflections sit, so there's a look for that. OSL comes from knowing what the glow actually touches, so point a coloured light and find out. Zenithal, rim light, cel shading, value studies. Save every setup as a rig and flip between ideas until one sticks.

Paint it in colour. Paint the model's regions and try whole schemes under the lighting you chose. Match every colour against your real shelf with proper perceptual matching, get mixing ratios built on real pigment behaviour, and pull schemes from reference photos.

Know what's on your shelf. Add your paints (snap a photo of the bottle and it gets identified for you) and Chromatory works with what you actually own, not a catalogue of paints you'd have to order.

Print your shading. Bake the cel look into the model and export a painted 3MF for your slicer: shades become filaments, creases become inked lines. On mixing printers, filament blending gets you a whole ramp of tones from two spools.

Assemble kits without the guesswork. Snap and mate multi-part STLs, cut parts along their natural creases, and route channels for pins and magnets.

An AI painting coach, if you want one. Hook up free local AI or your own cloud account and the coach knows your shelf and your projects.
